The vast majority of theoretical and numerical investigations of fibrillation is based on the assumption that human fibrillation is a deterministic process. Is this assumption correct? For example, cardiac dynamics is driven by inherently stochastic calcium cycling. In addition, seemingly random intracardiac signals during human fibrillation appear to contradict this assumption. Konstantinos applied a state-of-the-art analysis method to human fibrillation to provide profound insights into the mechanism of human fibrillation. Congrats, Konstantinos!

Another paper to demonstrate theoretically that the rotors are not causally responsible for the spiral waves. In this paper we borrowed ideas from complexity science to quantify information flow between micro- and macro-scale behaviors of the cardiac system. We thank the reviewers and the editor for taking the time and effort to review and accept this interdisciplinary work.
